You Can Fly Theatre Company was founded in February 2012 by Lisa Scudder and Daisy Gregg. They both attended Stretch Theatre Company from a young age and progressed from students to teaching the key stage two group and have taught curriculum based drama weeks in primary schools.

The Company

You Can Fly Theatre Company is a drama group for children in school years 2 to 8 who love to sing, dance, act and laugh!

We aim to teach various theatre skills, take part in interesting and enjoyable workshops and perform an annual musical.

As well as teaching drama, we want to help children grow in confidence and self esteem, we’ve seen first hand how theatre can change a child’s perception of themselves and we want to continue with this work.

If we believe in them and tell them so with encouragement, positive words and a lot of fun thrown in, it’s amazing what they can do – just a bit of faith, trust (and a sprinkling of fairy dust) and your child could truly fly!

The Directors

Lisa has been performing in musicals from the age of 13, at 16 she went to study at Greenwich Musical Theatre Academy graduating with an OCN in Musical Theatre and also received a merit in her bronze LAMDA examination in musical theatre.

In 2011 Lisa had the challenge to stage a musical version of ‘Peter Pan’ directing, designing, and producing the whole thing. It was a huge success and the children enjoyed the whole experience – Lisa remains extremely proud of the finished product and it definitely gave her the confidence to set up ‘You Can Fly’ in 2012.

As well as YCF Lisa is currently Assistant Ticketing Manager for Disney’s ‘The Lion King’ currently showing at the prestigious Lyceum Theatre.

Rachel Shacklock has been involved in all aspects of theatre and the performing arts for many years.  Whilst being a student at the Miskin Theatre Rachel achieved a National Diploma in Acting and a National Diploma in Physical Theatre, receiving distinctions in all, during this time Rachel enjoyed lead roles in various shows and direction from industry professionals.

Upon graduating the Miskin Theatre Rachel joined the very same theatre as Box Office Manager as well as part time Physical Theatre Director, School Project Co-Ordinator and Summer School Co-Director.

Lisa and Rachel met in 2009 when Lisa joined Rachel at The Miskin Theatre as Administrator and Front of House Manager, they became a great team and even greater friends. They are over the moon to be working together again on a project that they are both so passionate about, they both know how important drama is and hope to give chidlren the opportunity to increase their confidence, enjoy the experience of learning drama, and make new friends.

Guest Directors

We are very fortunate to have some talented friends who come along and run workshops and assist us with the singing, dancing and acting. They thoroughly enjoy being involved in You Can Fly and we love them paying us a visit!
